Photo Electric continued production for season two of the web series, The Movie Parody Network by shooting the movie parody, Really Hard Impact based on the 1949 movie Impact starring Brian Donlevy, Ella Raines and Charles Coburn and directed by Arthur Lubin.
As complex as this shoot was, things went amazingly well. With 21 setups the crew and cast was kept hopping, sometimes with as little as 30 minutes per scene. The key to keeping this production or any movie production on schedule is slavish devotion to meticulous organization. Cracking the whip this weekend was Christopher Nash, who was doing quadruple duty as Captain Callahan, the defense attorney, the tortured witness and line producer. In fact we finished an hour and a half early on Saturday!
The most exciting part of the shoot was a surprise brought to us by Patrick Knoles; a box of breakaway bottles for scene 2, the double cross. Being that we wanted to get this bottle over the head in only one take, we rehearsed the scene 6 times, held our breath and went for it… flawless. What a glorious crash! There was glass shards all over the studio. The excitement was a bit like playing with fireworks when you were a little boy.
Photo Electric welcomed new actress Krishna Smitha in the roles of scheming wife, Irene Williams and gossip columnist, Sheila Graham. Also helping out on audio and thrown into the role of bartender was newcomer Gregory Jones and returning to us from a month in Spain, Jay Riha as production assistant.
